To help golfers get more distance off the tee as well as more yards from the fairway, TaylorMade has brought many technologies that first appeared in its drivers to its fairway woods. With the release of the new SIM2 family of fairway woods, the company is continuing to use those ideas and technologies to help golfers hit the ball farther while maintaining forgiveness.
As the name implies, the SIM2 Titanium features a chassis and face made using a strong titanium alloy, like a driver, instead of stainless steel. Opting for titanium saved a significant amount of weight. It also allowed TaylorMade to make the hitting area thinner, so it can flex more efficiently at impact for increased distance.
The SIM2 Titanium (13.5, 15, 19 degrees) also has a carbon-fiber crown, like many drivers, which saves more weight and makes the top of the club lighter, and TaylorMade added a Speed Pocket slot in the sole to protect ball speed on low-struck shots. Finally, like many drivers, TaylorMade gave the SIM2 Titanium an adjustable hosel that lets players and fitters increase or decrease the loft by as many as 2 degrees.

Using the discretionary weight created by going with titanium and carbon fiber in the head, designers gave the SIM2 titanium an 80-gram sole plate that drives down the center of gravity. TaylorMade said the center of gravity is low enough that it projects directly into the middle of the face, which the company said will give golfers the ideal blend of distance and launch angle.
While TaylorMade designed the SIM2 Titanium to be slightly smaller (170 cubic centimeters) than its predecessor, last season’s SIM Titanium (180 cubic centimeters), it should be more forgiving because most of the sole plate’s mass is farther back in the head. That should boost the moment of inertia and make the club more resistant to twisting on off-center hits.
The SIM2 Max fairway woods (15, 16.5, 18, 21 and 24 degrees) are 190 cubic centimeters in volume, making them slightly larger than the SIM2 Titanium. While they have the same carbon-fiber crown, Speed Pocket slot in the sole and adjustable hosel, the SIM2 Max fairways are made using C300 stainless steel instead of titanium. They also have an updated V Steel sole designed to improve turf interaction and drive more weight back, away from the hitting area. The combination of size and the higher moment of inertia makes them more forgiving than the SIM2 Titanium, and most players will achieve a higher launch with them.

The SIM2 Max D fairway woods (16, 19 and 22 degrees) are the largest models in TaylorMade’s line for 2021 at 195 cubic centimeters. They also have the largest faces and have been made with a draw bias to help golfers who battle a slice.
